Lee Min Ho’s Chilean fans pitch in for good cause

Actor Lee Min-ho’s Chilean fan club donated $1,700 to the humanitarian organization Patagonia Compassion on behalf of the Korean actor, it was revealed Thursday.

Lee’s Chilean fan club, Minoz Chile, made the donation to mark the release of his new movie “Gangnam 1970.”

Patagonia Compassion, which works in Africa, will use the donation to fund its project building a boarding school for children who are homeless or are infected with HIV in Kenya’s Makueni region.

Fan club member Maria Jose Sanchez told a local news agency in an email that they are motivated by Lee to do charitable work.

In addition to the latest donation, Minoz Chile has raised funds to plant several hundred trees to form the “Lee Min-ho forest” in Chile’s Patagonia region that was hit by a major forest fire in 2011.

Lee’s new movie, in which he plays a gangster hoping to make it big as the now-affluent Gangnam area of Seoul undergoes rapid development in the 1970s, will be released in Korea on Jan. 21.
