‘Gangnam 1970’ tops advance ticket sales

“Gangnam 1970,” a Korean film directed by Yoo Ha, clinched first place in advance ticket sales on Tuesday morning, data from the Korea Film Council showed Wednesday.

The movie carved up nearly 24 percent of the total ticket bookings in Korea, outpacing “Ode to My Father” (15.8 percent).

Disney’s animated feature “Big Hero” and Korean rom-com “Showtimes for Seoul” trailed with 13.2 percent and 11.8 percent of advanced bookings, respectively.

“Gangnam 1970,” a tale of two men against the backdrop of the country’s tumultuous 1970s, is drawing public attention especially with popular actor Lee Min-ho in the lead role.
